Cherries Cold Chain Integrity

Previous slide
Next slide

As cherries are produced over a very short period each year (typically November to January) the timing of this case study did not allow for physical products to be used to demonstrate AgTrace. Therefore, hypothetical data, products and credentials were generated, in partnership with an existing cherry supply chain, for the purposes of proving the concept.

  • The Credentials: GLN verification, DAFF orchard accreditation, DAFF packhouse accreditation, Organic certification, Location of Origin, Health certificate
  • The Technology: Tree-to-Me location identifiers, Source Certain trace element analysis, Digital Product Passport

Produce grown in Australia carries a reputation for being high-quality. For cherry producers that export to China, they orchards must be annually accredited by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

AgTrace invested with Agriculture Victoria to incorporate AATP functionality within the Tree-to-Me application. This development allowed for additional Key Data Elements and decentralised identifiers to be supplied via GS1 digital link embedded in QR codes or via API services.

The final report is currently under review and will be publicly available when appropriate.

  • Assessed the adoption of the AATP within the horticultural sector.
  • Assessed of the issuance of multiple credentials within a supply chain.

The project team continued work, established in the first case study, th develop a permissions-based data sharing model that features:

  • Enhanced and standardised location identifiers
  • Incentivised data exchange
  • Is interoperable between existing industry and government systems
  • Can be scaled across commodities, issues and markets.

An appraisal of the requirements to onboard new technology service providers was also completed.
